So what have I been up to during radio silence?

Well I haven’t been painting prolifically as I have been mostly working on the house.
I joined a Facebook group called 1houranight which sets monthly targets and this has been keeping me motivated.
Anyway here is a selection of work. Apologies for the variable quality of photos, one of this year’s targets is to set up a little photo set-up so I can take decent photos.
Moonraker Miniatures
The Adventurer, his Concubine, his Accountant and his Bodyguard.
These are from Moonraker Miniatures and are part of my Rouge Trader collection.
Mirleton
This was a Christmas present.
It’s from Mirleton. I was disappointed to find out that there is only one pose of this as I wanted a small unit of Skaven cavalry.
Bad Squiddo
Another Christmas present a Female Orc from The Dice Bag Lady aka Bad Squiddo Games.
mine4
This is from Scibor and I bought it because a friend of mine is really into Dwarves. Seriously into them. And the thought of one of his little men consorting with one of the hated enemies will drive him to dispair.
Spellcrow?
This one is from Spellcrow I think.
Ozzy
This is Ozzy. He was a giveaway from Casting Room Miniatures. An offshoot of Foundry. Sculpted by none other than Kevin Adams. This plus a sale and free postage was too good an offer to pass up.
Ogryn
This is a test paint for my Imperial Guard Ogryn unit.
Dirty tracks!
Some armour for my Imperial Guard. I think I may have gone over the top with dust and mud.
mine2
This is from Kromlech. They are doing some very characterful Orks and Goblins. I have my eye on some more Goblin Pirates.
Anyway that is a round up of most of what I’ve painted. That I can remember. Sometimes I am getting a bit “Senior”.

Orctober

Here is the finished unit of the Lancer Miniatures Orcs from their recent Kickstarter.

Pros

A very good price and an Old Skool vibe. Twenty different poses, so a unit looks varied.

Cons

A couple of the sculpts appear to be phoned in. The Slottas could be a little thicker to grip the base better.

If I had the money I would support further Kickstarters from Lancer. The more they do the better they’ll get and that’s good for all of us.

It would be good to see the sculptors take on Trolls.

Oooh shiny! So much for discipline!

There I was, being disciplined in my painting, and along come the Orcs from the Lancer Miniatures Kickstarter.

Shiny!

So what happens? I stop painting what I was doing and start these.

Here is a view of my production line. This is pretty much what I do when I have a unit to paint.

0rcy2
Magnetising the bases with neodymium magnets
orcy5
Cleaning the mold lines with my new Dremmel attachment
orcy4
Basing with sand and PVA
orcy1
Undercoating the shields. I’ve been a bit lazy and used an old can of yellow primer that I had lying around rather than using my airbrush.
orcy3
Wood basecoat.
orcy7
Metal painted. A test shield with wash and in the background you can see the beginnings of a movement tray.
orcy6
Test shield with rust, wash and wood highlights.

Lancer Miniatures Orc Kickstarter

Just got these in the post this morning.

Thirty “Old Skool” figures that would fit in very well with my old Warhammer Regiments plastic Orcs. There are twenty different poses including command. Ten of these are doubled up to make the thirty.

The molding isn’t as sharp as I would like, but as this is a new venture I’m willing to give Lancer a chance. Mold lines are there but not as bad as some GW figures from the 80’s. I may have to do some filing on the hands to make the shields fit, but nothing major.

I will be dropping next month’s figures to make a start on these. There is an ulterior motive, Lancer Miniatures are running a painting competition to win the next set of Kickstarter minis.orcs.

A new Kickstarter project I’m backing

This is a project I’m backing. They look like old skool GW Orcs.

They have a little bit of this vibe going on

Thirty figures, twenty of them being different poses with full command for thirty eight quid! That’s including international postage. Sounds like a bargain to me.

Puppet’s War Orc Warbus

Finally finished this. It has been sat on my desk for almost a year.

I stumbled across Puppets War over a year ago. They are based in Poland and they produce resin parts most definitely not for any 28mm figures produced by EE.

If you compare their prices against Forgeworld’s you’ll find them very reasonable along with ridiculously cheap postage and packing. Customer service is excellent, I found that my parcel was missing a couple of pieces, contacted them and received the replacement parts with a few extras as way of an apology.

The kit is in several pieces and have a couple of different options. You can choose to have caterpillar tracks instead of wheels at the rear. Or it can be built with an open back instead of the enclosed “bus” body. There are enough grills to cover the windows or enough guns to have one at each window if you desire. The model was well cast, with one exception, and there were no air bubbles. FW/EE please take note.

This more of a display piece rather than a gaming piece as some bits, like the wing mirrors or guns are a bit flimsy.

I am very pleased with the model and on the strength of that I’ve ordered several more models.
